The CDC has asked that providers delay vaccinating the general population until after October 24th.
Flu Facts:
Every year in the United States, on average:
5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and; about 36,000 people die from flu. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications:
Ø Influenza is a miserable affair and very contagious.
Ø A new flu vaccine is given every year because the flu virus changes year to year.
Ø It’s impossible to get the flu from the vaccine because it contains an inactive or “dead”
virus.
Ø The flu shot prevents 70% to 90% of influenza cases.
Ø Offering the vaccine through the workplace is an effective method to keep your
employees productive and on the job.
Ø For high-risk employees, complications from the flu can be deadly.
In addition to the vaccine you can help your employees protect themselves from the cold and flu season by promoting:
ü Good hand washing
ü Covering the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
ü Improve one’s natural resistance to viruses through a healthy diet, adequate rest and regular exercise.
