Workers’ compensation costs are significant for all organizations. Nearly 51 percent of employees suffering an injury will miss work for more than five days, with 20 percent of those employees out of work for more than 30 days. A well integrated return-to-work program can reduce workers’ compensation claim costs; allow the injured employee to continue to be productive to the company while still recovering; provide incentive to the injured worker to recover quickly; and decrease the chance of re-injury upon return to work. Return-to-work programs that use transitional work have been shown to reduce healthcare costs and lost-time wages. Both employers and employees benefit from effective return-to-work programs.
